For the first class we did some icebreaker exercises to get to know each other better. Then the teacher introduced us the subject overview and the first assignment.

MOVIE POSTER IDEA

My movie idea is recreating the Mamma Mia movie poster by putting the young and old characters together.

Because I find it cute to watch two people with similar faces in one scene.

In this week we got to know about typography and text layers. Also learned how to use advanced masking.

Reflection of making movie poster

In this assignment we are required to recreate our own version of movie poster by using Photoshop and techniques that covered in class.

My movie poster idea is recreating the Mamma Mia movie poster by combining the first and second films and putting the two generations of characters together. Because I think seeing two people with similar faces in one scene have strong visual impact.

First of all, the original Mamma Mia movie poster shows all characters gathering on a jetty, which is located in a beautiful island in Greece. So, I found an image of a jetty and took it as the background of my poster. Secondly, I create a text layer, and change the movie title into “MAMMA MIA!”.

Then I changed the effect of the text layer and made it gradient from dark blue to light blue. After that, I search the internet for some main characters pictures. Therefore, I created six layers for 13 casts. They are the heroine Sophie, her mother Donna and Donna’s friends Tanya and Rosie, her three possible fathers Harry Bright, Bill Anderson and Sam Carmichael. I basically just use the magic wand to clear the surrounding unnecessary colors and put a mask on the layer and soften the edge with painting tool. In addition, I upload a selfie of mine.

In this week the teacher introduced the software and workspace for assessment 2. In addition, I knew how to capture images, create a project and import footage in After Effect. Then, I worked with Photoshop file and Created a composition and arranging layers.

For this week we need to create storyboard of the animation assessment. I captured some images from a music video for a sequence. Then I modified layer properties and animated compositions.  

Animation Idea

For this assessment we're required to make a 30 seconds animation with After Effect. I am going to make an animation with these main images below. The animation theme is introducing my favourite boy band GOT7.  I'll put members's voice individually with the matched character together and add some effects into it. 

I used After Effect 2018 to make my animation project. The layers are moving because I transformed them and make them rotating and changing the position. I used 4 adjustment layers and also a text layer at the end of the animation. iMovie is the platform I edited the background music. 

This week we went to Carriageworks Redfern for an excursion tour. The exhibition is hold by Nick Cave. Nick is a very unique artist. His works are impressive and difficult to categorize or define. 

The theme of exhibition is Until. Comprised of thousands of found objects which together make us feel as if we have entered a rich sensory tapestry and stepped directly inside the belly of one of Cave’s iconic Soundsuits. For his Carriageworks installation, Until — a play on the phrase ‘innocent until proven guilty’, or in this case ‘guilty until proven innocent’  he addresses issues of gun violence, gun control policy, race relations, and gender politics in America and its resonance across the world. 

Reflection on overall subject 

For this subject I have finished two assessment in this semester. The first one is movie poster project. Students were required to recreate a movie poster by using Photoshop. In this assessment I've learned how to use masking and blending images in compositions, typography and advanced masking. My movie poster is about Mamma Mia movie, which I put two generations of the characters into one poster. I also add up my selfie in it. 

The second assessment is the animation project. Students were required to make an animation employing motion graphics and visual effects by using animation software. I used After Effect to finish the assessment, the animation video is approximately 30 seconds with layers moving and background music. In this assessment I've learned how to create compositions and arrange layers. 

Multimedia is a very interesting and useful subject. Hope the skills I've learned in this subject can be used in the future.
